Three Tips For Dressing For Your Job Interview

Dress for success is not just a saying, it is the truth. On average the person conducting your interview can determine if they would hire you or not in the first 10 seconds of an interview, mainly by what you are wearing. Therefore, it is important to dress appropriately. A general rule to keep in mind when dressing for an interview is dress two positions higher than the one you are interviewing for. This shows you care about how you present yourself. The company will appreciate that.

Match the company's style

Nothing is worse than wearing a suit to a company who dresses casual. This can leave you feeling out of place and uncomfortable which will hurt your interview. Take the time to figure out what attire the company requires. You can do this by one, noticing when apply and two, checking out the company's social media page. By looking into the company before dressing for your interview you know what to expect. However, always dress to impress. If work attire is casual, wear a business casual outfit, if the attire is business casual, then wear a suit to impress.

Always dress neatly

Good hygiene is a must when going to an interview. Make sure that you are freshly showered, clean shaved, have deodorant on, and have fresh breath. This will show your interviewer you have self worth. Always dress neatly in clean, wrinkle free clothing to show attention to detail. Choose clothing that fits properly and is not ill fitting. Ill fitting clothing can make you look sloppy and can leave your confidence lacking. Style your hair neatly, but make sure it is manageable and not distracting. Same goes for aftershave and perfume, you never know if your interviewer has allergies, so you should use it sparingly.

Avoid anything flashy

This tip goes towards clothing, make up, and accessories. Try to avoid anything loud or that has busy prints, this can be distracting to the interviewer. Chances are when they consider offering you employment the only thing they will be able to remember about you is your busy clothing. It is okay to add a little personality, maybe by wearing a bright solid shirt. Just avoid any prints or graphic tees. Make up is fine as long as it is not applied to heavily and looks acceptable. Accessories add personality and that can be a good thing. Just keep in modest and nothing too over the top or large statement jewelry. You can always style up your outfit by adding a matching bag and nice clean shoes.

Finding the perfect outfit to wear to your interview is half the battle. However, use your best judgement when trying to come up with something to wear. Always keep in classy, if you are ever in doubt you can always ask a friend or family member their opinion. If there's one thing you should dress yourself in it's confidence. After all confidence is key.
