Determining a Job is a Good Fit From the Interview

A job interview is not just to see if you are the right person for the job. It is also for you to see if it is the right company for you. An interview is a two-way street, use this time to find out if the job is a good fit for you as well. There are a few questions and tips to pick up on while in the interview to help you decide if this is the right company for you, or if you should keep looking.

Meet your boss

If you are seriously considering taking the job position, you need to meet the person you will be answering to. Try and pay close attention to how they get along with other employees. You also need to notice their personality. Do they seem like someone you could get along with on a daily basis? If not the job isn't for you. Your boss is someone you will need to deal with quite often, therefore you need to get along well.

Meet your requirements

Often people are so worried about impressing potential employers that they forget their own needs. Before you decide on whether you want to take the job or not, make sure it meets your requirements just as much as you meet theirs. Do the hours work with that you are looking for? Is their mission something you feel you want to be part of? If you have a family, are they family oriented? This is all stuff you need to consider before you accept any job offer.

Overall atmosphere

During the interview, if you get a tour of the company see what the atmosphere is like. If it seems like everyone is depressed, chances are it isn't going to be a good work environment. To make a career out of this job you are going to need a positive work environment. Get an overall feel for the company and see if it can give you something to look forward to every day. If the people you could potentially work with seem happy and it meets your needs this could just be the place for you to start a new career with.

Be truthful

This goes for not only your employer, but for you as well. If you are not truthful with your potential employers you are just setting yourself up for disaster to come. Always be upfront and honest in your qualifications just as they are with you. This is how you will be able to tell if it is the best place for you to come to work for. A career is a relationship between you and the company. It is something that should be strong and work together for the same purpose. Therefore, be honest with them, to allow them to see if you are a good fit and them be honest with you to see if you think you can make it work. In the end, it is a mutual agreement that keeps the relationship between you and the company working correctly.
